The defender is a sponsored champion of a dwarven cause, a dwarf aristocrat, a dwarven deity, or the dwarven way of life. As the name might imply, this character is a skilled combatant trained in the arts of defense. A line of dwarven defenders is a far better defense than a 10foot-thick wall of stone, and much more dangerous.

Hit Die: D12.


To qualify to become a defender, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Race: Dwarf.

Alignment: Any lawful.

Level: 7 class levels.

Feats: Tough.

Class Features

Protection: The dwarven defender receives a base increase to his Armor Class of +4. Meaning that his base AC is 14.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A dwarven defender is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, all types of armor, and shields.

Defensive Stance: A dwarven defender can become a nearly unmoveable defensive wall while taking a new “Defensive Stance Action” which is considered the same as the dodge action and although he must not take any action that requires him to shift his position. He gains the following bonuses while taking the Defensive Stance and holding his spot:

  • Gains advantage to strength and constitution checks.
  • AC increases by +3.
  • Gains Temporary Hit points equal to 2x his level.


Uncanny Dodge: At 2nd level, when an attacker that you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to halve the attack’s damage against you.

Danger Sense: At 3rd level, you gain an uncanny sense of when things nearby aren’t as they should be, giving you an edge when you dodge away from danger.

You have advantage on Dexterity saving throws against effects that you can see, such as traps and spells. To gain this benefit, you can’t be blinded, deafened, or incapacitated.

Damage Reduction: At 4th level, a dwarven defender gains damage reduction. Subtract 6 points from the damage the dwarven defender takes each time he is dealt damage. Damage reduction can reduce damage to 0 but not below 0.

Mobile Defense: At 5th level, a dwarven defender can adjust his position while maintaining a defensive stance. While in a defensive stance, he can take one 5-foot step each round without losing the benefit of the stance.
